Think Mario Kart Wiimote steering wheel.
It may not seem like such a huge deal, but CTA Digital showed up at our developer part tonight and wowed us with a great new peripheral for the iPhone. This product is so new, that we were among the first to see it in wild. The units they were demoing were the originals! You can see from the screens below that it fits the iPhone snugly, and comes with attachments to fit the iPod Touch as well.
There aren’t any integrated buttons or anything, simply because this hasn’t been done yet (outside of jailbreaking), and it won’t become an option until iPhone v3.0. CTA did mention that this was something they would like to look into in the future, which is an exciting thought.
They had two versions of the steering wheel. One that you hold free in your hands, and one that mounts to a surface with a large suction cup. They also demoed a cool Xbox 360-like grip for the iPhone to make it more comfortable to play. The concept of these is not new at all, but for the iPhone, and with the production quality, they were pretty impressive. I believe they said the regular wheel would be around $10.
