E3: Fruity Jelly First Look

Bulky Pix loves their fruit syrups. This game gives me a major sweet tooth.

Fruity Jelly has one of the cutest and saddest intro videos I’ve seen in a long time. Essentially, an entire village of Fruit Jellies, “birthed” from fruit-flavored syrups, is raped and pillaged by some evil shadowy figure. A single blue jelly is all that remains, and it’s up to you to collect fruits to create those mystical life-giving syrups! MMmm… waffles.

Anyways, you control your little jelly be tapping left or right to slide him side to side, but more importantly, you can rotate the entire level clockwise or counterclockwise 90 degrees at any time. This is similar to RocknRoll, which is quite an old title from Tag Games. However, in that game, you completely controlled the main character by free-rotating the level. Fruity Jelly adds quite a bit more challenge by limiting the level rotation to just 4 positions.

The goal of the game is simple, and involves collecting fruit and avoiding enemies as you rotate and slide yourself through the level. The graphics are cute and colorful, and the animations looked good, although the build we played still has some polishing left to be done. Fruity Jelly should be out this month, or early July, and will be available for 99 cents.

Sounds interesting, might check it out. Interesting intro, we’re trying to do something similar with our game.
