Disney’s Split/Second released (includes video)

Disney have released their extreme demolition based racing game onto iPhone and iPod Touch…

The game, based on the console version, sees you speeding through city streets that are rigged for demolition. As you race, areas of the environment can be triggered by yourself to cause your opponents to crash and allow you to take the lead. Playing over nine tracks across three locations; Airport, Downtown, and Port, and featuring 15 cars to choose from, you can play solo against the AI players, or in online battles, WiFi and Bluetooth.

We’ll have our review up soon, but initial impressions are not great. It certainly looks good, up there with the Burnout series on PS2. But gameplay-wise it’s a mixed bag, this is primarily down to the collision detection, or lack there of, that sees you crashing out even with the lightest of bumps with the environment. In the video below this is quite evident, even to the point where I crash twice because the game re-spawned me right in front of the same obstacle I had already crashed into. It looks like Disney could have given the game a few more road tests before releasing it into the wild!

Split/Second is out now for $6.99 Split/Second
