You remember this guy right? The small pixelated man with the spear-pump thingy, the weird underground adventures, and hours and hours of frustration and fun. Well Dig Dug fans, your old favorite is back in both it’s original and new remixed form for your iPhone enjoyment.
The Classic Dig Dug seems pixel for pixel to be exactly the same as it was back in the day. All 250 levels are in this version in it’s full glory. Everything seems to be preserved pretty well, but when making everything smaller for the iPhone version it seems we lost a little of the smaller text from the original. The sound matches the original and that’s a good thing.
Dig Dug Remixed is the classic Dig Dug updated with new graphics and some new gameplay. In addition to the classic play you are used to, you can now collect powerups, and fight bosses every few levels. The music is the same tune, but totally redone. It sounds good, but I think I like the original better.
If you liked Dig Dug back in the day you may think that you will enjoy this one as well, however, you will probably be disappointed. The biggest thing holding this game back are the controls. Both the D-Pad and Flick controls completely fail to give you any real control over your game. After a few levels I found myself fighting more with the controls then in the game with the enemies.
Presentation & Graphics

The game graphics are adequeate, but the menus are akward, and multi-layerd. They really need to simplify things here.
Sound

Sound is adequeate, nothing special.
Gameplay

Classic Dig Duggy goodness. The new version has a lot of updates, but I still like the original mode better.

The controls kill the experience. I would be amazed if you could stand to play this game for more than 10 minutes.
Game Rating

Dig Dug would have gotten a higher rating if the controls were any kind of decent. You may still be able to pull some nostalgic goodness out of it, but it won’t be long lasting.
