Lets discuss the first major RTS port on it’s way to the iPhone.

By now, Command & Conquer: Red Alert on the iPhone is practically old news. You’ve heard us discuss it on our podcast, seen posts on other sites, and you might have seen the bootleg video that was posted online (that has since removed per EA’s request). Being a life-long fan of the Red Alert series, I just wanted to mention how impressed I am with the build we were shown at E3, and get your feedback. I would have liked to have media for you guys, but EA is holding off since the build we saw was so early in development.

A few months back, I wrote an article outlaying the top 5 reasons RTS will work on the iPhone. Very soon after I heard that EA was bringing C&C to the device. Coincidence? Absolutely. But I do like to think I made some good points!

If you haven’t seen the OFFICIAL gameplay video release, check out the horribly blurry video here.

Watch it yet? Go on. I’ll wait.

Ok then, so now it’s your turn to write your impressions! That’s right, I’m tired of doing all the work for you this week. What did you think? Granted the graphics are not that blurry in real life - it’s simply someone who doesn’t know how to manually focus a camera. ;) The first video has some better (but briefer) shots.

Here are some things I noticed from playing the game:

- Tesla coils are still awesome!
- All the menus can be collapsed easily to the side of the screen to allow you take advantage of the entire iPhone screen.
- You will be able to have up to 4 control groups in the final version.
- You will be able to select multiple units (duh), but we don’t quite know how since it hasn’t been built yet!
- Units automatically attack-move.
- You can easily zoom in and out by pinching.
- You can navigate the battlefield by touching and dragging on the mini-map.
- You drag to move along the map otherwise. You can’t just drag and hold to keep moving.
- The graphics looks fantastic, even up close!
- There will be two factions to play (assumingly the other one is Allies).
- It’s currently looking at a Fall release.
- It’s awesome.

What are you guys hoping for from the franchise on the iPhone? Any skeptics? Let the opinions drop, yo!

Looks great, fluid and all but I definitely think that C&C is not a good candidate for iPhone (mainly because of its small screen, the inherent scrolling, the inherent loss of time, in a RTS game).

I’d better see Heroes Of Might and Magic, a perfect game for the iPhone: the touch screen benefit without the small screen problem since Heroes is not dependent on how fast you move/react.
