Bulkypix’s new puzzle game Burn It All hits the AppStore on the 28th April. We got hands-on with it this week.
A casual game through and through, it looks to be aiming it’s sights on the behemoth of casual games Cut The Rope. Will it succeed? Well, you’ll have to read our review nearer release.
The purpose of the game, as the name suggests, is to burn objects on screen before the time runs out. To do this, you must grab a flame creature from the bottom right of the screen and drag it to objects to ignite them. Once ignited, the flame creature loses power and returns to the corner where it regenerates. You can then use it again to ignite more.
Early levels see you burning rope, but later you’ll see other objects such as pieces of wood become available. With your initial flame type the rope can only be ignited at its frayed ends. There are also different types of rope which burn at different speeds, as well as having different lengths. This gives each level an element of strategy as to where you start burning, and which object in which order to complete the level before the time runs out. Eventually you unlock various flame types too, which can burn through objects quicker or from anywhere. To add to this, various obstacles are present to hinder you; such as water droplets which extinguish your flame; creatures such as bats that slow you down; and plumes of gas which can both help and hinder you.
So far in our play-through, I’m concerned the game is too easy. So, we’ll need to play some of the later levels to see if Burn It all has enough to topple the other great casual game out there. But in the meantime you can check out a few levels in action below:
