Artificial Life have released their F1 racer into the AppStore this week…Artificial Life’s first racing title features the current BMW Sauber F1 Team for the 2009 season. The game allows players to compete around the world as either Nick Heidfeld or Robert Kubica, racing on 8 challenging tracks in a variety of racing conditions.
We have had some hands-on time with it, and as you can see from the video below, the experience is a little lackluster. Steering is very loose, the graphics are not exactly up to scratch with titles like Real Racing, with very low poly models and textures…. and the the sound, while sampled from the real thing, just doesn’t sound real in it’s implementation into the game… specifically under braking.
Overall it just doesn’t feel like you are behind the wheel of an F1 car. There is a good sense of speed in the straights, but on corners you feel like you are on ice. The games representation of Kers is also way off, giving you an over exagerated boost, more in line with a Mario Kart powerup. It’s far more an arcade experience than a realistic interpretation of F1. Having said all that, the game is only £1.19 ($1.99) and features various customisation options, a pit stop mini game, as well as online leaderboards and the ability to enter a competition to win F1 merchandise… see previous post here.
I’ll spend some more time with the game and update you with my impressions.

I think I’ve officially lost interest in this after watching the handling in that video.
