Beyzacases Zero for iPad 2 review

The new Zero series from Beyzacases places strong focus on slim design. The name is meant to make the statement that this is a sleeve that adds zero bulk. To keep it slim other aspects need to be sacrificed.

Zero is made from two pieces of leather sown together along the sides. The leather quality is good, but not comparable to the full grain leather qualities. A genuine leather with folded edges hides the grade somewhat. Still the leather is quite durable, and has a nice gleam to the surface.

bz20010_flotan_back11All seams are perfect, and the cool stitched stripes across the front gives the sleeve a cool look.  Overall the level of workmanship is excellent. Beyzacases creates sophisticated yet at the same time youthful designs. Contrast stitching alongside the vibrant lining gives the sleeve a lot of personality. Branding is limited to the brand name printed on the lower back, and a logotype indented on the front. I would have like the logotype more visible, as it would be quite striking with the bull horns.

The lining is soft with a velvet texture. It keeps the screen free from smudges, and makes sure that it emerges in a fresh state.

Inserting the iPad 2 in the sleeve is not that easy, as the sleeve is quite flexible. It gives, and flops about, and it takes two hands to insert properly. Getting the iPad 2 out is done by grabbing the front and back at the top of the sleeve. It helps if you also pushes it from the bottom of the sleeve.

For protection the sleeve offers excellent scratch protection. Impact protection however is sacrificed by using a bit too thin leather. It will sustain smaller bumps, but can’t guarantee that the screen will survive a direct drop on pavement. Depending on how you carry your iPad 2 the protection will be sufficient or not. If you carry it in a bag the Zero offers more than enough protection, but if you carry it freely it is not enough.

When the iPad 2 is pulled out it lights up, and when inserted it goes into sleep mode. Excellent integration of the new technology from Apple.

When the iPad 2 is in the sleeve you only have access to the silent button, and headphone socket. Everything else is covered. For charging with the iPad 2 in the sleeve you can insert it bottom up.

The Zero is a slim sleeve with a lot of style and cool vibes. It offers sleep functionality, great attention to details and a soft lining. The thin leather makes it floppy, and not that easy to insert the iPad 2 into. For protection it also sacrifices impact protection for light weight, and thin design. It still comes highly recommended, and if you are looking for a great looking companion to the iPad 2 this is a good choice.
