Beyzacases Executive iPad case review

The Executive from Beyzacases would be perfect for any boardroom, and it wouldn’t surprise me to see it on the Apprentice. As all great leather cases it wouldn’t surprise me to see it on the beach either in the hands of a student playing Flight Control. Hailing from Turkey, Europe, Beyzacases is a company specialising in creating high quality leather cases. The Executive is no exception.

The leather is strong, soft to the touch and has an excellent finish. The balance between thickness, and weight is perfect. Considering the amount of protection, and versatility the case offers it is quite lightweight. Like all other products I have tried from Beyzacases the leather is high grade, and the workmanship is top notch. All seams are well threaded, and there are no loose threads or ends anywhere. Fingers crossed that Apple keeps the same size for the next iPad, because this case will definitely outlast the first model.

b3Inserting the iPad in the case is really simple. A piece of leather inside the case wraps around the side of the iPad. The front flap then keeps the iPad in when on the move. The fit is great, even though any extra straps don’t secure the iPad. Inside the case you have full access to the screen. All of the controls, and sockets are open to use. There is never any need to take the iPad out of the case unless you need to dock it in the iPad keyboard dock.

For protection the case offers good impact, and excellent scratch protection. For higher drops the leather is too thin to absorb a direct hit. It will however protect the iPad from piercing impact up to quite high levels of force. The front flap covering the screen is not fastened in any way, and this lowers the protection level significantly. If dropped from more than 2 metres there is a risk that the front flap opens midair, and thus leaved the screen unprotected. This is a matter of many things going wrong, and for everyday use it is definitely good enough when it comes to protection.

b2There are many solutions available to turn leather cases into stands when typing or watching movies. The Executive has one of the simplest, and easiest to use solutions. A leather socket on the back lets you insert the front flap, and eureka you have a stand. It works really well, and adds no extra weight. It does however mean that you can’t have large papers inside the front flap pocket.

The Executive isn’t made for the gamer, and holding it up to play accelerometer controlled games is awkward. This goes for the majority of leather cases with the odd exception in the Vaja iVolution. All cases with a permanent front flap suffers slightly from being awkward anywhere but in your lap, or on a table. It is easy to sling the front flap around the back when you want to have the case completely open. Thanks to the simple leather piece holding the iPad in this is possible without having the iPad flying out of the case.

b1As always I am impressed with the high quality materials, and craftsmanship of cases from Beyzacases. The Executive comes highly recommended to both professionals, and students in need of a versatile yet protective leather case. The price is quite high, but so is durability.
