Move over Daisy Mae… there’s a new big breasted alien slayer in town… and her name is Babeorella!
Due for release by Doublesix on 25th March, Babeorella is an arcade shooter that sees you marooned on a remote asteroid teeming with hordes of killer robots. Much like Daisy Mae and other wave-based single and twin stick shooters, you roam the level kicking alien butt.
Along with it’s tongue-in-cheek style – a nod to the 1968 science fiction film Barbarella – the game exhibits a unique distance based attack system. So depending on how far you are from an enemy it will activate a weapon suitable for that distance. For example, for long range attacks Babeorella will use her laser pistol or rifle, but when up-close and personal she’ll either unleash a laser tipped whip, or a heavy techno mallet.
Movement control is via a virtual stick on the left of the screen, while weapons are controlled by three buttons on the right. One for light attacks, one for heavy, and the third for powering up for a Bomb attack, as well as initiating a quick dash to evade encroaching enemies.
As you play through each wave of robot attacks, power ups become available for collection from certain spawn points. These aid you by slowing down the bots, increasing your health, or increasing your attack level. You can also earn credits to upgrade your character, including health, weapons damage and range.
On first impressions, Babeorella is certainly a fun and intense arcade romp, but only time will tell as to whether she has enough on offer, and enough bang for her buck, against the wealth of shooters already vying for top position on the AppStore.
