Ancient Frog Review

Ancient Frog ($4.99)

The iPhone is riddled with puzzle games. So when a puzzle game like Ancient Frog stands so far out in front, it’s worth taking a look at.

Ancient Frog is a puzzle game where you move your frog, foot by foot, to the tasty fly at the other end. There are two things that make this a little harder than it seems. First, you can only move the Frog’s feet within it’s natural range of motion. Second, you can only step in certain places. In each level the footholds are in different places and there are varying numbers of them. The game also tracks how many steps you take, called par. Ideally you want to make it within par, but there is no consequence for going over.

The graphics are colorful, and lifelike. When you go to play a game it’s like your going to play with your pet frog. There are many different frog varieties, and many different levels to play in. The environments and detailed and rich. It’s one of those games that is simply a pleasure to experience.

574714Ancient Frog has plenty of Gameplay too. There are 100 levels and 6 different frogs to play them with. Some levels will take little time and effort, while some may seem impossible. The sheer number and variation in the levels allows for many hours of floppy frog fun.

Presentation & Graphics
The graphics on Ancient Frog are amazing. Each time you load it up, it’s like a breath of fresh air.

The sounds are great, you feel like your in the rain forest. However you still can’t play your own music. In general I would prefer to listen to the in game sound track than my own, but I feel like every game should have the option to play your own music.

The gameplay is simple but strong, a very good puzzle game.

There are a lot of levels, and they can last you a long time, but you will eventually get tired of it. It may be a long time, but it will eventually happen.

Game Rating
Ancient Frog is an excellent puzzle game. At $4.99 there is a lot of content, and a lot of fun to be had. It’s worth the price.

Shamefully overlooked game. One of the best in the appstore…

    Fantastic game!

But i think the lasting appeal is higher than the rating here. I have completed 30 levels but found that i go back to the earlier levels and its like i have to redo all over again … so its great fun and replayability!

    beautiful game, graphics and sound

The lasting appeal would be higher, if this was not an iPhone game. With iPhone games I have higher expectations for updated levels, or online play, since you are using an always connected device.

Glad to see you like it Nige, I remember on the podcast you didn’t seem too impressed. It’s a game that is hard to describe for sure.

It must be bad because Nacho gave it a high score. Jk Jk of course. I think I’m gonna give this a shot.
