Blue Skies Review thumbnail

Before this sentence is completed, fifteen shoot ‘em ups will arise on the App store.  Chances of them being thought out and executed well are slim, and the chances of them being anything better than mundane are slimmer yet. Blue Skies is the exception, it is the shoot ‘em up equivalent of a good [...]

The Creeps Review thumbnail

I am sure that everyone reading is acquainted with the story of the boy who cried tower defense. Of the countless ill-begotten recommendations, only a few of the tower defense titles recommended by the boy were actually good games. This time the boy is telling the villagers about the creeps, and I have a [...]

iFPS review thumbnail

Pick Up and Play have brought out the first online first person shooter for iPhone with the originally titled ‘iFPS’. The game offers a Quake 3: Arena style experience with three arenas to choose from, and up to 4 players can duel it out locally and, for the first time, online. After a quick practice [...]

Brilliance, pure brilliance! There, I said it, now go download the game.

Want to know why you should buy :Shift:? Maybe I should mention superb artsy graphics, lovely jazzy music, great two button controls, and cool game mechanics combined with clever level design. Add to that a dark sense of humour that is as twisted as [...]

Vanguard Storm review thumbnail

I really loved Crystal Defenders when it was released for the iPhone, and I even bought it for my iPod Nano. I still consider it the best tower defence game even with the ugly control pad in version 1.0. To see Vanguard Storm surface at the appstore really got me drooling with anticipation. [...]

Deer Hunter 3D Review thumbnail

If you’ve heard even one of our podcasts, you’ve probably heard us dog on iHunt. Why? Because it sucks. Neither versions of the game look or play well, yet for some reason it managed to squeeze into the top 10 apps on the app store! All of use threw up our hands in unison, with a “WTF?!” I can honestly tell you that you won’t read one more mention of iHunt in this review. I can’t compare this game to iHunt in good conscience, as it would be equivalent to comparing a Pinto to a Ferrari.

Ninja Rally quick review thumbnail

A rally game featuring ninjas? Nope Ninja Rally has nothing to do with high speed gravel races through the woods of Sweden. Ninja Rally is about rallying ninja troops, hence the word rally.

The gameplay found in Ninja Rally is all about following the leader. You get five ninjas on screen, and they can perform three [...]

Sonic is unleashed… albeit in retro form thumbnail

SEGA have released Sonic the Hedgehog on the AppStore today. While we love to see Sonic’s glory days grace our beloved jesus phone, we can’t help but wish SEGA spent a little more time and brought out one of the newer games in his checkered past. No we don’t mean rubbish like Sonic unleashed, but the excellent Sonic Rush series on DS. But, for now we’ll have to settle for this classic.

State of the system: Part one thumbnail

Apple’s App Store was announced over a year ago, and since then we’ve seen it explode, with over one billion apps downloaded, independent developers striking gold with the likes of Trism, and mainstream powerhouses contributing AAA titles like Super Monkey Ball, Tiger Woods and Assassin’s Creed. The quality and variety of games has multiplied dramatically, and with those increases comes a question - have developers reached the potential of the platform? If not, where will it go from where?
